Gnus in the News!
You may have seen them riding unicycles in the Holiday of Yesteryear parade. You might have found them at your front door at Christmastime delivering cookie mixes or other presents. Maybe you saw them practicing march and drill near the corner of Smith and Pine Streets, or completing a 50-mile bike trek. Or you could have caught them volunteering at BABES, cross-country skiing at Hatten Park, leading out in church services, or visiting residents at St. Joe's. But just who are the New London Gnus?
The Gnus are Wisconsin's newest Pathfinder Club, an exciting youth organization that focuses on developing outdoor, health, social and spiritual skills. Young people in fifth through tenth grades participate in camping, marching, community service, and a wide variety of other activities. This spring, the New London club will be participating in a backpacking trip to the Porcupine Mountains, completing a 10-mile cross-country ski trip, creating knot displays, competing in a Bible knowledge event, and other activities.
Pathfinders are continuously working on earning honors, much as scouts earn merit badges. They also coordinate their own fund-raising activities, so each Pathfinder's family is not burdened with the cost of various outings.
